Thomas WINTERS was born before 1800 in Co. Limerick, Ireland. He married Jane CHAPMAN on 24 August 1817 in Kilfinane, Co. Limerick, Ireland. He died between 1851 and 1858 in Co. Limerick, Ireland; The Valuation Revision that began in 1858 shows Jane Winters as the occupier of the Upper Sunville farm, indicating that Thomas had died by then.

Thomas Winters was a Farmer. He was resident in 1826 as a tenant of the Oliver Estate. He was mentioned in 1826 as receiving a half-year's salary of £2-12-6 for 'attending to Upper Sunville Lyre More and Lyre Beg Mountains or Bogs' due 1 May 1826.

He was living in 1828 at 'Ballingreany' on the Oliver Estate; Two separate entries indicate that he held two plots from 5 to 20 acres, each giving an entitlement to one turf ticket. It is possible that one entry refers to the Thomas Winter whose daughter Anne was baptised in 1810, assumed to be an uncle. The location of Ballingreany is unknown as it is not a present-day townland. He was recorded in a valuation survey of 1849 in Upper Sunville the land being described as 'Arable & pasture good sharp brown clayey soil medium depth on a calcareous gravely subsoil 28 acres 0 roods and 6 perches.'

He was recorded in the Griffith's Valuation of 1851 in Upper Sunville, Co. Limerick, Ireland, where he leased just over 28 acres with an annual value of £23-5-0 from Fred. Chas. Trench Esq. and Miss E. O. Gascoigne. In the adjacent townland of Toor there is a reference to a plot of some 35 acres leased from Silver Oliver Esq. by 'John Lillis (Winter).1,2,3,4,5,6'

Robert WINTERS was born on 2 December 1833 in Co. Limerick, Ireland.1 He was christened on 12 December 1833.2 He married Ellen LEE, daughter of Michael LEE and Mary (-), on 11 January 1860.3 He died in May 1905 in Shunpike, Dutchess County, New York State, USA, at age 71.4

Robert Winters witnessed the marriage of Andrew Winters and Mary Jenkins in Kilmallock, Co. Limerick in 1856. He emigrated to the USA in 1859, and he is believed to be the Robert Winters who was naturalized as a US Citizen on 16 October 1868 in Supreme Court, New York County.

He was recorded on the census of 15 July 1870 in Washington, Dutchess County, New York State, USA, and was described as 'Robert Winters, a white male aged 37, farm labourer, a US citizen born in Ireland, with real estate valued at $1600 and personal possessions valued $350'. He was enumerated with Ellen Winters (aged 30), Mary Jane (aged 9) and Thomas (aged 5).

He was recorded on the census of 19 June 1880 in Washington, Dutchess County, New York State, USA, and was described as 'Robt. Winters, a white male aged 46, a farmer, born in Ireland, with both parents born in Ireland'. He was enumerated with Ellen Winters (wife aged 40), Mary J Rettenburgh (aged 19), Thomas (aged 15) and Mary E. (aged 1).

He was recorded on the census of 18 June 1900 in Washington, Dutchess County, New York State, USA, and was described as 'Robert Winters, Head, a white male aged 66, born Dec 1833 in Ireland to parents also born there, married for 40 years, immigrated in 1859 & spent 41 yrs in US, can read & write, a farmer owning his farm free (not mortgaged), zero months unemployed'.

There is some confusion as to the exact dates of his death and funeral, which are given alternatively as May 2nd and 9th or as May 4th and 6th. Pneumonia was reported as the cause of death. His obituary describes him as follows:
“Robert Winters died at Shunpike, May 2, aged 71 years, having lived 48 years in America, most of the time in this town. His wife was Ellen Lee, who crossed the ocean about the same time, and the Lee family settled in the same neighborhood. He was a man of considerable education, having been a schoolmaster in Ireland, and had a good reputation here as a good citizen and neighbor. He owned a farm near Shunpike Station. A large congregation attended the funeral at Millbrook on Tuesday.”

His entire estate was valued at $1,000 personal and $400 real and was left to his widow Ellen.5,6,7,8,9,4,10,11,12
