John Courtney French was a Policeman in the Royal Irish Constabulary. He was enumerated in his mother’s household at Killala, Co. Mayo in the 1901 census. He enlisted in the Royal Irish Constabulary in 1902, aged 18. In 1908 he received a first-class favourable record and £5 for brave conduct displayed when attacked while on patrol with Sergeant Oates. He was recorded in the 1911 census as a Constable in the RIC Barracks, Dunlo Street, Ballinasloe; the barracks housed 15 constables, an acting sergeant, two sergeants and a head constable at the time. He was recorded on the official list of favourable records (Good Police Duty, Class III) in 1918. He emigrated to England and was living 38 Upper Cranbrook Road, Bristol, England at the time of his marriage in 1936.
John Courtney French may have been given his middle name after Courtney Tunbridge who was a witness at his father Robert French’s wedding, and who was his great uncle.2,3,4,5,1

Eliza French was recorded in the 1901 Ireland census at Roundstone, Co. Galway and described as Elizabeth Laidley, aged 33, housekeeper, born in Co. Galway. She was enumerated with her 8 children Frederick (aged 13), Christina (12), Amanda (10), Robert (8), Edna (5), Geraldine (4), Irene (2) and Violet (10 months). Her husband Charles was the enumerator, in his capacity as the local Constable, and he was recorded separately on the Barracks Return.
She was recorded in the 1911 Ireland census at Oughterard, Co. Galway, and described as Elizabeth Laidley, aged 33, married for 23 years and having 11 children, all still living. She was enumerated with her husband Charles H. (aged 50), and children Robert S. (18), Edna A. (16), Geraldine M. (14), Irene A. (12), Violet R. (10), Louis H. (7), George A. (5) and John J.F. (2).
She emigrated to America in 1915 with her husband Charles and children Violet, Louis, George and John. They sailed from Liverpool on the S.S. New York, leaving on 7th August and arriving at New York on the 16th. In 1920 she was living at Ainslee Street, Philadelphia with her husband Charles and sons Louis, George and John. In 1930 she was recorded in Philadelphia with her husband Charles, son Louis, daughter Geraldine Henry (widow), grandchildren Katherine Henry (12) and Joseph Henry (9), son in law Thomas Moody (43), daughter Edna Moody, and grandchildren Eileen Moody (10) and Thomas Moody (8).3,4,5,6,7

     Frederick Robert HIGGINS was born on 24 April 1896 in Foxford, Co. Mayo, Ireland. He married Beatrice May MOORE, daughter of James MOORE and Elizabeth McDOWELL, on 3 August 1921.2 He died on 8 January 1941 in Jervis Street Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, at age 44.3 He was buried in Laracor Church, Co. Meath, Ireland.
     
Frederick Robert Higgins was a Poet, Playwright and managing director of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. He was the eldest of nine children. He published four volumes of poetry: Island Blood (1925); The Dark Breed (1927); Arable Holdings (1933); and The Gap of Brightness (1940). One of his better known poems, from the last volume, is 'Father and Son'. Following his death, the Irish Times published several notices, obituaries and tributes.2,3

Margaret Mahoney was living in Kilfinane in February 1882, when she was the informant of the birth of her niece Margaret Winters. She emigrated in 1885 to Australia. She was living in Upper Sunville in January 1885, when she was the informant of the birth of her niece Georgina Jane Winters.

She emigrated in 1885; she was 21 years old when she departed from Plymouth and arrived in Sydney on board 'Belgic II' on 12th September 1885 as an assisted immigrant. She apparently travelled alone as there are no other Mahony relatives on board.

Adelaide Deverell’s address was Railway Station, Tralee at the time of her marriage in 1909. She appeared on the 1911 census in the household of Robert Samuel Meredith in Corbally, Tecolm Parish, Co. Laois, Ireland, in which she was described as Adelaide Meredith, wife, Church of Ireland, can read & write, aged 37, born in Queen's Co, married for 1 year, with 1 child born alive and still living.4
