The origins of our Barrer families were in the South East of County Limerick, close to the Winters family and near the Tipperary/Cork border, just north of the Ballyhoura Hills. Thomas Barrer is the earliest known ancestor for this branch. He was born before 1796, and lived between 1818 and 1831 at Kilgarriff, Co. Limerick, Ireland.

Other Related Families: The Barrer family is related to the French family (originally from Co. Cavan) through the marriage of Thomas Barrer (1858-1937) to Margaret French. Her nephew was F.R. Higgins, the Irish poet. The Barrer family is also linked to the Robinson family, who were originally from Co. Sligo.
